LIVE CLASS NOW FULL, sign up to download the class

Berlin-based fashion designer and upcycling pioneer Christine Mayer will teach her first ever workshop in the UK in Brighton when she will lead an in-person Draping and Upcycling Retreat from 10-18 June 2021. During this 9 day/8 night retreat you’ll learn how to transform tired old garments into desirable and unique items of clothing that fit you like and glove and reflect your personal style. You’ll stay in a charming boutique hotel just minutes from the Grade II listed Regency Townhouse where the daily classes with Christine take place. Amongst the meals provided will be a ‘historic' picnic and the chance to experience some of Brighton’s best restaurants. The Retreat also includes a day trip to the medieval coastal town of Rye when we visit legendary drapers Merchant & Mills to shop for goods and meet the founder over tea. If you are curious and want to know more about draping and upcycling why not join our free online taster class with Christine on Saturday 7 November at 6pm GMT via Zoom?

During the one-hour Zoom class Christine will demonstrate step-by-step how you can create a unique dress using two everyday men’s shirts. The class is guaranteed to open your eyes to the possibilities of upcycling and show you how to successfully and easily update your wardrobe without spending a penny.

The online taster session will be recorded and available for you to download the following day so you can work on your dress in your own time. Basic sewing skills are required and the project can be sewn by hand or with a sewing machine.

The retreat in Brighton next June will cover more complex upcycling techniques as well as the classical Japanese art form of draping fabric three-dimensionally directly onto a body form. Once you’ve mastered the skills for creating one-off pieces there’ll be no looking back.

The live class are now full but you can still watch the demonstration by signing up below.
