How many garments will there be in the Capsule Collection?

Each participant will receive patterns for the entire Capsule Collection which comprises three patterns: a pant, a knit tee, and a button up shirt that will also have a dress length option. This will give you plenty of options for style, silhouette, different fabric substrates as well as the ability to mix and match into different outfits.

Can I attend if I am a total beginner to sewing?

Absolutely! All levels of sewer are welcome and you do not need to have any previous sewing experience to join us. However, it goes without saying that the more sewing experience you have the more progress you are likely to make during the Retreat. Experienced sewers can move onto making a second or third garment once they have completed the first.

Do I need to choose the pattern I plan to make before I come to the Retreat?

In order to allow yourself plenty of options you should bring the fabric and notions for at least two garments with you to the Retreat.  You will receive a pack of information in June which will contain sketches and photographs of all the garments in the Capsule Collection together with details of recommended fabrics, notions required, size guides, etc. Shortly after this information we will invite you to join us on a group Zoom call when Christine will talk generally about personal style,  wardrobe planning and fabric selection and she will also  answer any questions you may have. Your pack containing all the paper patterns in the Capsule Collection will be handed out at Goodnestone Park on the first day of the retreat.

Will patterns be available in different size?

Each pattern will be available in all sizes from XS-4X. You will find a link to Chrstine’s sizing chart in the information pack so you will be able to check which size you fall into before you buy your fabric.

Can a pattern be adapted, eg, if I want short rather than long sleeves?

The patterns are designed so that there is some flexibility to customize a garment and you can discuss your preferences with Christine during the retreat.

What happens if I don’t finish my garment during the Retreat?

Each pattern comes with a fully illustrated instruction booklet which most people will find easy to follow on their own at home. Private teaching sessions are available at extra cost for anyone wanting to focus on particular techniques on a one-to-one basis with Christine.

Do I buy the fabric for my garment before I leave home?

You should buy your fabric ahead of the Retreat as you will need to pre-treat it for shrinkage beforehand..  You will find tips and suggestions for pre-treating your fabric in the information pack.

Can you recommend places in the US.to buy fabric?

A pack of information containing the Capsule Collection, suggested fabrics and notions, recommended accessories to bring with you, plus links to fabric stores in the US will be sent out early in July 2025.

What do I need to bring with me?

You will need to bring the fabric for your sewing projects, thread, and notions. Scissors, pins, tape measures, needles as well as other essential sewing accessories will be provided at the retreat.  We will also provide you with  a short list of suggested items to bring with you.
